Office Visit, Urgent Care, or Emergency Room?

Aug 6, 2026

Call 911 or go to the emergency department for chest pain or pressure, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, trouble speaking, severe bleeding, a serious head injury, or any symptom that feels genuinely alarming. Do not drive yourself with chest pain.

Call our office for fevers, sore throats, urinary symptoms, rashes, sprains, minor cuts, flare-ups of conditions we already manage, medication questions, and anything that has been building over days. We hold same-day slots precisely for this, and because we have your chart, we can usually help faster and more cheaply than urgent care.

Urgent care is a reasonable middle option when we’re closed and the issue can’t wait until morning — but it’s rarely the better choice during our business hours.

The most common mistake we see is patients going to the emergency department for problems we could have handled the same day, and waiting on problems that needed the emergency department. When in doubt during office hours, call us — deciding is part of our job.
